Genuine Geospatial Business Intelligence

Spatialytics’s mission is to maximize the value and usage of the geographic dimension of the information via a genuine integration of Geospatial (data and capabilities) into Business Intelligence technologies and best practices.

History

Dr. Thierry Badard has been involved in Geospatial software development for almost 15 years. His work, while at the IGN and more recently at Laval University, was involving Open Source technologies.

Five years ago, as an assistant Professor at the Department of geomatic sciences of Laval University, Thierry came to a simple conclusion : to make progress and effectively implement GEO in business intelligence, he would base his work on an existing Open Source BI platform (Pentaho) and the resulting work of its projects would also be released as Open Source contributions. His research was benefiting from Open Source, so are the resulting tools and software from his research team GeoSOA.

Spring 2008, Thierry shared his thoughts with Luc Vaillancourt, a consultant at the time with a 15 year experience in business in geospatial. Thierry explained his actual work, his vision and his desire to eventually launch a company involved in Geospatial and BI, with Open Source culture and manners deep in the company’s DNA…

Spring 2009, Thierry’s plan was more mature, Luc’s market lecture was clearer (Geospatial in particular and IT in general). The time (and location) was right. They both wanted to start this company, based in Quebec City.

Now that this company is created (August 2009), the two founders are thrilled with each other’s  role and contributions in terms of knowledge, skills, personality and networks but first and foremost, the fact that they share the same vision.

Spatialytics is now Open, Open in many ways.

Founders

Dr. Thierry Badard is the co-founder of Spatialytics Solutions Inc. and is the CTO (Chief Technologist Officer). Thierry is an active member of the Spatialytics.org community. For the company, Thierry represents the science behind the Geo-BI solutions and professional services… making it happen with real life users and clients.

Luc Vaillancourt, the “other” co-founder of Spatialytics Solutions Inc., is the CEO (Chief Executive Officer). Luc is in charge of the communication and promotion of the benefits using GeoBI, business development and the day to day operations of the company.

About Spatialytics.ORG, the Community

Spatialytics.ORG is the site where the community can benefit and participate to this fresh Open Source GeoBI initiative, around three main projects, beeing GeoKettle, GeoMondrian and SOLAPLayers.

Spatialytics (Spatialytics Solutions Inc.) is fully committed to animate, contribute and support the Spatialytics.org community and its related projects. Spatialytics strongly believes in the virtues of Open Source and welcomes any users, programmers and integrators to benefit from GeoBI and, when possible, to participate and contribute.
